A three day regional conference on Decentralization, Local Power and Women’s Rights in South Asia: Trends in Participation, Representation and Access to Public Services was co-organized by IDRC, India, ForestAction Nepal and HIMAWANTI Nepal in August, 2008. Participants of this conference were women activists, gender specialists, social inclusion specialists, natural resource manager and decentralization specialists from Canada, Pakistan, India and Nepal. Six constituent assembly members – Ms Pampha Bhusal, Ms Puspa Bhusal, Ms Jai Puri Gharti, Ms Binda Pandey, Ms Renu Yadav and Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba also participated in the workshop. Professionals from different governmental and non-governmental sector from Nepal actively engaged in different session of the workshop. The workshop came up with a number of issues related to women’s right in various decentralized sectors and policy recommendations.
