Natural regeneration Rescue (प्यांग्री लहरा (माइकेनिया) नियन्त्रण: प्राकृतिक पुनरुत्पादनको “उद्धार”)

Invasive alien plant species (IAPS) are a growing challenges in forest and landscape management. Mikania micrantha and Lantana camara are among the most burdensome species in Nepal’s forests, which have been degraded by historical land use practices. Although, local communities have tried to control impacts of IAPS in community forests, their efforts are inefficient due to lack of control methods in ecological understanding of invading species and local ecosystems. Thus, building on and drawing from our seven yearlong engagement (2017-2024) with IAPS management in various parts of Nepal, ForestAction Nepal has developed a communication material in Nepali language to support local communities in managing IAPS in degraded forests. The publication highlights Natural regeneration ‘Rescue’ and protection as cost effective and efficient strategy for IAPS control. The publication also discusses ways of capitalizing ‘window of opportunity’ to ensure growth of native species regeneration and  sheds light on need of long-term plan and local scale intervention for result oriented forest restoration while managing IAPS.
