Research Fellow

Kaustubh Thapa is a sustainability researcher working at the intersection of environmental governance, circular economy, just transition, and climate action. Using inter and transdisciplinary approaches, he explores how societies can design fair and effective responses to social and environmental challenges.

At Radboud University, he co-developed the concept of integrity as a guiding principle for voluntary climate action by non-state actors, addressing greenwashing and the need for credible, holistic strategies. Earlier, at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University, he studied transboundary waste trade and co-created Ultimate Producer Responsibility as a policy tool for a just circular economy transition.

He holds a PhD in Circular Economy from Utrecht University as a Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellow, an Erasmus Mundus MSc in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, and a BA in Philosophy. He has collaborated internationally with institutions in the United Kingdom, China, Nigeria, Vietnam, Mexico, and Nepal.
