An informal discussion program on “Review and further planning on the engagement of various stakeholders in ongoing and upcoming agriculture policy formulation process” was held on Friday, 29 March 2013 (afternoon) at Hotel Greenwich, Kupondole. The expected representatives were from the ministry, departments, I/NGOs, farmers groups/federations and media.

World Wide Views on Biodiversity Citizens Meeting

World wide views on Biodiversity Citizens meeting was organized on september 15, 2012 in  Kathmandu.

Around 100 Nepali citizens from diverse backgrounds will gather on September 15, 2012 in Kathmandu to express their views on biodiversity issues. This is a global consultation meeting which will be participated by thousands of citizens in 25 countries in five continents. The event is named as World Wide Views (WWViews) on Biodiversity where at least 100 citizens will gather in each participating country to share their views on biodiversity. The daylong event will start from dawn in the Pacific and end in the Americas. The participants during the program will represent different geographic location (Mountain, Hills, Terai), age groups, ethnicity, educational level and occupation. The main aim of the event is to create awareness among the participants on issues pertaining to biodiversity as well as scale up the voices to national and global policy makers. The results obtained during the event, along with those from rest of the countries will be presented during the Conference of Parties (COP) 11 of Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in India on October, 2012.

Dolakha Field Visit

Behavioral and choice experiment on REDD+ in Dolakha district

A team from ForestAction Nepal along with Prof. Randell Bluffstone of Portland State University visited Dolkaha district on 25-26 January, 2013. The main objective of this visit was to conduct a trial on the choice card prepared for the choice experiment and behavioral experiment for the project entitled “Nepal Community Forestry (CF) program and UN-REDD in developing countries: CF making pro-poor carbon sequestration policy”. Two different events were organized – one in Gumfa Mahavir Litte Community Forest and another in adjoining Non Community forest in Mudey, Dolakha. Based on the learning from this experiment, the project team members will be carrying out the experiments in other project districts.

Interaction program on issues of agriculture

ForestAction organised an interaction program at Indreni foodland on 18th January. The objective of the program was to discuss on overall issues of agriculture in relation to the agriculture policies in Nepal including Agriculture Development Strategy (ADS). Participants from ministry of agriculture, ministry of land reform and management, department of livestock, I/NGOs, media and civil societies were present during the program.

The National Workshop on “Food and Agriculture Right: Civic Concern”

The National Workshop on “Food and Agriculture Right: Civic Concern” was held on 17th -18th of March 2013 in Jawalakhel. The workshop was jointly organized by ForestAction and farmer’s association. Participants were from national planning commission, ministry of agriculture development, agriculture departments, CSOs, journalists and farmers from 7 districts ( Arghakhanchi, Kapilvastu, Nawalparasi, gorkha, Udayapur, Bara and Rasuwa). The main objective of the workshop was to raise the issues and challenges of small holder farmers and to suggest the government to address their concern while preparing agriculture development strategy

On February 27-28, farmers and civil society

On February 27-28, farmers and civil society leaders came to Kathmandu from Karnali region to inform about the issues of food and agriculture of Karnali to the concerned stakeholders). In collaboration with Fastenoper, ForestAction have been involved in capacity building and facilitating farming communities of Karnali region.

A 5 days capacity building workshop was organized in July 2012 and facilitated to form a loose forum in each districts of Karnali region “Karnali Khadya tatha Krishi Sarokar Samuha”. Similarly 3 days preparatory workshop was organized in Surkhet from February 23-25, 2013. There were 25 representative farmers and civil society leaders from Bajura, Humla, Jumla, Kalikot, Dailekh and Mugu. Out of them 2-3 participants from each district were selected and came to Kathmandu as delegation team.

The delegation team came to Kathmandu and organized press meeting on 27 February with the aime to inform media about their programs/plans in Kathmandu and to release press statement. On the same day they discuss with the representatives from NGOs and INGOs separately. On 28 February they organized interaction with leaders of different political party to inform and request to be aware about the situation of food and agriculture of Karnali. Likewise they met vice-chairman of national planning commission, spokesperson of ministry of agriculture development and finally interact with the representatives of projects of governments. They also met president Ram Baran Yadav on 1 March.

The main aim of the concern group was to inform the problem and opportunities of food and agriculture in Karnali region. They urged all the stakeholders to realize the specific arid characteristic of the region and design plans, programs and policies address food and agriculture issues. They prioritized 5 major possibilities and priorities of Karnali and expecting appropriate policy and the program to be implemented. For more information see
